Almost 5 hours into the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona and Fernando Alonso currently leads overall in the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac. He is closely followed by the #31 Whelen Caddy, the #77 Joest Mazda and the two Penske Acuras. All of the top cars are within a minute and a half of each other as darkness truly envelops the Daytona road circuit.
It GTLM, Corvette leads Ferrari and Ford, while in GTD the Land Motorsports Audi R8 leads the way.
It is getting quite cool now, and the rain is still forecast to arrive in the morning.
It is going to be an interesting and intense night of competition and we will see where everyone is tomorrow morning in the light (and rain) of day.
More to follow.
Jack Webster has been shooting motorsports since the early 1970’s, covering Formula One, CanAm, F5000, TransAm, GrandAm and American Le Mans races, among others. In addition to his photography, he has also worked on racing teams, both in IMSA and IndyCar, so has a complete knowledge of the inner workings of motorsport. Both his photography and writing can be seen here on racingnation.com. Eddie LePine has been involved in motorsports for over 30 years as photographer, columnist, and driver. Eddie also is now a retired racer (well, retired unless a good ride pops up). You can usually find Eddie in the paddock area, deep in conversation with a driver.
