Dillon Brings Number 3 Back To Sprint Cup Series
- Updated: December 11, 2013
As expected, Austin Dillon will bring the famed number 3 back to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Joining Richard Childress Racing teammates Ryan Newman and Paul Menard campaigning Chevrolet SS on the circuit, Dillon will be sponsored primarily by General Mill’s Cheerios and Dow during the 2014 season.

Dillon, a former champion in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, capped off the 2013 season by winning the championship in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for grandfather/owner Richard Childress.
“My grandfather and everyone at RCR have done a great job of not pushing me too quickly into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series,” said Dillon. “I feel like I’ve been able to spend adequate time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series preparing for this next step in my career. I am thrilled to be making this move with partners like Dow and Cheerios, along with some long-time partners who have supported me and RCR throughout my career. I am truly grateful and looking forward to this opportunity.”
Gil Martin will crew chief Dillon in his first full-time Sprint Cup Series season. Martin brings thirteen years of experience working for RCR and led former RCR driver Kevin Harvick into the “Chase” six times.
General Mills and their Honey Nut Cherrios brand were on board when Dillon made his first Daytona 500 start and will continue the association in the 2014 season. Keep up with Dillon, Cherrios and the #3 on Facebook and Twitter with @CheerThe3 communities.
The program between RCR and Dow is driven by several Dow businesses that are directly involved in R&D projects and strategic business and relationship opportunities unique to the NASCAR community.
In addition to Dow and Cheerios, several long-time partners associated with RCR and Dillon will join him as he moves to full-time competition in the Sprint Cup Series including Realtree Outdoors, Bass Pro Shops, American Ethanol and the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Dillon made eleven Sprint Cup Series starts during the 2013 season and had a best qualifying start of seventh and best finish of eleventh at the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway in June. Along with the championships in each division Dillon has five wins in the Camping World Truck Series and two wins in the Nationwide Series.
